Welcome to our 'Working away in rural Scotland' gallery, featuring the best submissions to that theme of our photo competition. We had some great photos, featuring everything from tree planting to recording wildflowers. To fully appreciate each of our photos click on them to be taken to a larger version.

Fiona said, "It was a cold, dull, misty day and we weren't getting any good photos - when suddenly a huge flock of gulls started swooping about the field where the ploughing match was taking place. They looked like they were enjoying the action!" Taken in Orkney.

We don't often include two photos by the same photographer, but we felt we had to include this shot of Lianne looking very proud with one of the trees she helped to plant at Happy Valley in Orkney. Over the course of a weekend, volunteers planted over 700 trees!
