Rural Gateway at five - five most popular stories

Image of the number five planted in a gardenWhat have been the most popular stories on the Rural Gateway in its first five years? The Rural Gateway launched on 10th March 2003, and to celebrate our birthday we took a look back through the archives to see what five stories have been our most popular.

1. Your Project: Coalfield Community Transport

Our most popular article to date was from our popular regular feature Your Project, where people tell us about their community projects. The Coalfield Community Transport project are based in Ayrshire and aim to provide community and voluntary groups, and vulnerable people, in the Coalfield area with affordable and accessible transport. Want to take part in Your Project? Email editor@ruralgateway.org.uk.

2. Blog on the Edge 12

Julia Whitaker lives in Ardnamurchan at the western edge of Scotland. Her 'Blog on the Edge' series ran from December 2005 until November 2006. During this time she wrote about a woodland course, sea rescues and red squirrels, but it was this article about her participation at the local agricultural show that proved most popular!

3. Calling all those on small islands: a chance for a free trip to Brittany

It's not surprising that this story was popular! The article is about an exchange trip that was being organised by the European Small Islands Network Project to the island of Quessant in France.

4. Funding latest 43

Sandra Hogg's Funding Latest articles are always popular so we fully expected one of these stories to be in our top five. Don't forget you can also visit our Funding Surgery and put your questions to Sandra and other Gateway users.

5. Active woods in Dumfries and Galloway

'Active woods' is a Forestry Commission Scotland youth project at the 7stanes mountain biking centre. Mountain biking photos would fit perfectly into our 'Action and adventure in rural Scotland' photo competition theme. Find out more about the photo competition here.

These results reflect the kinds of news and information you will find on the Rural Gateway, from contributions from our users to the latest on funding, you'll find it all here. If you would like to become a contributor, write a one-off report for us, or take part in any of our regular features then get in touch by emailing editor@ruralgateway.org.uk.
