Info broker / financial research careers?

Hi, I’ve just completed my MA in information studies and am thinking about my future career. My main motivation is that I want to avoid a 9-5 office job! I work best on my own with plenty of autonomy. Information brokering really appeals to me, but I would need to build up a) experience with all the various databases, and b) more confidence, so I intend to register with some temping agencies to find other work first. I see there are a few information brokers on these boards and would really appreciate their advice. What kind of roles should I be looking for? Should I choose a specialism, like law or business, and try to get work in these sectors? From looking at job listings, I also like the sound of financial research – partly because it’s often part-time or evening work, which suits me; and partly, I’ll be honest, for the salary! Are there any people here who have done this kind of work? What personal qualities do you need, and what’s it like? Thankyou very much Kate
